We’re very excited that an exhibition co-curated by our very own Sr. Curator and Interim Associate Director Heather Lineberry is now showing at the prestigious Museum of Arts and Design (formerly the American Craft Museum) in New York.  Here’s a bit from our press release:

“The Arizona State University (ASU) Art Museum exhibition Intertwined: Contemporary Baskets from the Sara and David Lieberman Collection has been extended to show at Museum of Arts and Design in New York City through Sept. 12, 2010.

Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) requested an extension of the Intertwined tour for their institution after it completed a successful exhibition at ASU Art Museum and national five-city tour. Formerly the American Craft Museum, Museum of Arts and Design is the leading museum in the U.S. for the exhibition and interpretation of contemporary craft. This is the first ASU Art Museum-organized exhibition to travel to a major New York museum.”

Congratulations to Heather and her co-curator, artist and scholar Jane Sauer. And much thanks to Sara and David Lieberman for sharing their amazing collection and for continuing to support ASU Art Museum in many ways. Click the photo above to go to the full release on our ASU News site, and for details on the location and hours of the show in New York.

Great start to a new year!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season (and isn’t having too much trouble getting back into the swing of things)! We just had a really nice email from a recent ASUAM visitor who is a regular visitor of museums around the country, and since I’m sort of partial to our Americas Gallery too, I thought I’d share:

“…I was most impressed with the permanent exhibit in the Americas Gallery on the Second Floor. It is a very contemporary and bold gesture to juxtapose classic examples of varying eras. I absolutely LOVE that you did this and cannot express enough how rich an experience it was to see these works side by side. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This created a memorable and rich experience. I look forward to returning.

In gratitude,

Laura Denyes

Thank you, Laura!

Artist Brad McCallum

Brad McCallum is just one of the fantastic artists whose work is showing in the museum. Brad will be attending the reception on Friday night (tomorrow!) along with other artists, collectors and random really great people. I’m excited for this reception – it’s going to be fun!

Join us! The ASU Art Museum is free and open to the public. We’re located on Mill Avenue and 10th Street near downtown Tempe. The reception will be held 7-9pm and is free (although there are cool t-shirts and collectibles by artist Roy Wasson Valle available to buy for $15-$20).
