In 2005, the ASU Art Museum presented the first solo museum exhibition of the work of artist Stella Lai, an exhibition titled Let’s Stop Pretending (http://asuartmuseum.asu.edu/lai).

Lai has a current solo exhibition which opened last weekend at F2 Gallery in Beijing, for which I was fortune to have been invited to write an essay for the exhibition catalogue – an 80 page publication that includes an interview conducted by Danielle Shang, with all text presented in English and translated into Chinese.  I thought I would share these installation images from the current exhibition which Lai shared with me.

In talking to Bradley McCallum last week during our installations, it turns out F2 Gallery is the same space that premiered Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry oil on canvas and toner on silk series, many of which are featured in the current ASU Art Museum exhibition of the Weithorn’s collection. Season Opening Reception

Thank you to everyone who attended the opening reception this Friday night! It was a very successful evening and I hope you all had a great night of art, music, wine and fun.

It isn’t over yet, though — ASU Art Museum is going on tour!

There are still seats available for The Other Mainstream: Artist Studio Tour 2008, on Saturday, October 4, 5pm – 10:30pm. You don’t want to miss this evening of exclusive access to artists and conversations with curators and local experts on the Valley’s growing arts community.  Cost of $85 per person helps with luxury coach transportation (which starts and ends at the ASU Art Museum) and refreshments served throughout the tour. To sign up, please call 480-965-2787 or email studiotour@asu.edu.

Artist Brad McCallum

Brad McCallum is just one of the fantastic artists whose work is showing in the museum. Brad will be attending the reception on Friday night (tomorrow!) along with other artists, collectors and random really great people. I’m excited for this reception – it’s going to be fun!

Join us! The ASU Art Museum is free and open to the public. We’re located on Mill Avenue and 10th Street near downtown Tempe. The reception will be held 7-9pm and is free (although there are cool t-shirts and collectibles by artist Roy Wasson Valle available to buy for $15-$20).
