It’s time: the 2009 Short Film & Video Festival
One of my favorite things to do at this time of year, aside from spend time with family and make (and eat!) lots of my grandma’s Christmas cookies, is watch films. I love film; indie flicks, foreign stories and good old blow-everything-up-Hollywood-style movies. I especially love video art, so I was really excited to join ASU Art Museum earlier this year where video art is truly appreciated and promoted as an important creative medium.
Ok, you don’t care about me or my grandma’s cookies. So here’s what you need to know to submit your free entry into the 13th Annual Short Film & Video Festival at ASU Art Museum:
1. There is no fee to enter and anyone can do it. Entries are accepted throughout the year from filmmakers worldwide.
2. Entries must be not longer than 10 minutes.
3. Send your entries to the Museum directly and please include your name and contact information.
See our Web site for all of the details, which are kept pretty simple, really.
The deadline for entry this year is February 6, 2009. The selected entries will be screened on the Plaza at the Nelson Fine Arts Center on April 18 at 8pm.
Need even more video art? We’ve got you covered: our very own John Spiak is bringing the show he curated for Aqua Art Miami to town later next year. The full exhibition, titled I’m Keeping an Eye on You, will be at ASU Art Museum in August, 2009.

Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who joined us last week for the Tempe Chamber of Commerce – we had more than 100 people attend despite the nasty rain! It was a very successful event and we were thrilled to welcome new visitors to the museum.
This event would not have been quite as good without our partners. A special thanks to our co-sponsor Heidi Veil of Heidi’s Events & Catering – it just doesn’t get any better. Susan Brooks, owner of Cookies From Home, also donated some fabulous trays of cookies to the event. (And did you know they have a really adorable gift shop in their store?) With all the new faces to meet and impromptu museum tours I wasn’t able to take photos, but a new friend, Nick of Rail Life, sent me this one of us taken by our Curator John with Nick’s camera.
Thank you again everyone and have happy holidays!!

Goodbye Fall ’08! Hello all!
The fall semester is finally over! Winter break is here!
Hi, my name is Crystal and I am working as an intern for the Registrar. Throughout the year, I will be making posts about internships at the museum. If there is anything you would like to read about internships, please send an email to clburnet@asu.edu.
And, for your amusement, here is a clip from the movie Bean.
(It is museum related!)

Park Here!
For tonight’s Tempe Chamber of Commerce event at the ASU Art Museum, we have secured parking for our guests! While there is metered parking available along Mill Ave, in the lot immediately in front of our entrance and a few spots on 10th Street, guests will be able to park FREE at the Ceramics Research Center (labeled CRC on the map) in marked spots for the Museum, and also in spaces marked for Permit Parking only in what we refer to as lot 16. See the map: lot 16 consists of both the smaller lot immediately next to the Ceramics Research Center and the large lot at the southeast corner of Mill Ave and University.
We look forward to seeing everyone tonight!

Aqua Art Miami!
I recently returned from Miami and the amazing art fair week! Through the extreme generosity of Aqua Art Miami, the ASU Art Museum presented I’m Keeping an Eye on You, a curated Video Project Space at Aqua Wynwood, as part of the ASU Art Museum Moving Targets Initiative.
Thanks to Aqua’s Jaq Chartier, Dirk Park, Joshua Weinberg and Bhavin Patel for their incredible energy and support. Thanks as well to the Scenic Group’s Craig Hensala, Simon Watson and Molly Myer for all their promotional efforts and networking support.
A thank you must also go to Jenea Sanchez for assistance in creating program material for the presentation in Miami. Thank you as well to the ASU Art Museum Advisory Board, specifically Eddie and Ellyce Shea, for hosting a preview event of the project at their home in Phoenix.
I must thank Heather Lineberry, Interm Director at the ASU Art Museum for her support in the Museum’s participation.
Lastly, this project would not be possible with out the over 425 artists who submitted work for review and made recommendations of artists for consideration, most specifically the ten artists selected for the final project; Mounira Al Solh, Rachel Garfield, Charlotte Ginsborg, Pia Greschner, Myung-Soo Kim, Yaron Lapid, Jeff Luckey, Johnna MacArthur, Michael Mohan and Corinna Schnitt. The process has been extremely rewarding and through it I have discovered numerous artists that I look forward to working with and presenting their work in future exhibitions.
I’m Keeping an Eye on You travels to the ASU Art Museum, premiering as a full scale exhibition in fall of 2009, so make your plans now to pay us a visit.
Here are some images that will give you a feel of the overall presentation at Aqua Wynwood.
Hope you enjoy!

hey new college grads- need a job?
Seems that the Oscar Myer people need a few good Weinermobile drivers! Think you have what it takes? check out their site for the information!
And yes, I know this might be a stretch to call this a Random Act of Art, but have you ever seen this thing in person? I have, and I say IT’S ART. :)

sharing the music of the holidays
from Indiana State University- a great a cappella group (with a wicked falsetto). If this doesn’t make you smile then you really are a grinch!
Thanks to Peter Shankman for sharing!
